Rural luxury
Even at the beginning of the semi-paved driveway, you immediately notice; this must be something special! And it is. As you drive on through the rich forest and heathland terrain, the majestic thatched villa looms up after a while. In front of the house is nice deep gravel and a phenomenal boxwood hedge. The house was commissioned by a well-known Twente textile baron and designed in 1924 in the English country house style by Architect M.H. Krabshuis. This master builder earned his fame with other regional villas, cinemas and factory buildings of the Twente textile industry.

Everything is still original
The current owner bought the mansion in 1977 in its original state. Everything as it was designed in the 1920s was still intact. With great care, a thorough modernisation was carried out without harming the authenticity. Thus, the hall, Heerenkamer and spacious living room (both with their own fireplace), the china room and the adjacent dining room remained. The servants' quarters, under the flat roof between garage and house, were converted into cosy dining kitchen and garden room.

Craftsmanship
The craftsmanship of the past is recognisable in the wooden panelling, the atmospheric mosaic floor in the hall, the dark oak doors, mantelpieces, many details and the spiral staircase to the first floor. Here are three bedrooms; A luxury bedroom suite with parquet flooring, an intimate loggia with views over the Twente countryside, a shared balcony at the back and an en suite bathroom with dressing room. There is also a sizeable bedroom that shares its balcony with the Master Bedroom. And a smaller bedroom on the north side, above the beautiful entrance hall. On the second floor -accessible via a wide spiral staircase- are two more classic wooden-style bedrooms with substantial storage areas.

Monument
The English country house is a national monument. That means the exterior and the interior must remain partly intact. This is not for nothing; it is a rich ensemble with well-preserved details that has been perfectly restored over the years. Remarkable for a 100-year-old house is the state of maintenance. No expense has been spared to preserve this precious asset for the 21st century. For instance, the thatched roof and oak lower windows on the west side were replaced in 2022 and the oak garden doors some years before that. Contrary to popular belief, quite a lot is possible in terms of conversion in consultation with specialist architects. After all, what matters is that the villa remains as a liveable home for years to come.


Country estate with extensive flora and fauna
The thatched country house is surrounded by spacious lawns. The rear garden - with two south-facing terraces - has a pond on which ducks regularly land. In the western lawn is a modest swimming pool. Next to the garage -with space for several cars- which has its own grease cellar and workbench and has an upstairs painting studio, there is a shed for garden machinery and lawn mower. The grassy path from there leads through the vast heathland with juniper bushes to its own forest. Because it is a resting area, roe deer, pheasants and hares have settled there. The estate covers just under 4 hectares. However, there is the possibility in consultation with neighbours to purchase additional land to create a NSW estate.

Eastern Netherlands is cosy
Wierden is a cosy Twente village with amenities such as primary schools, a centre with shops, free parking, supermarkets, medical care and many indoor and outdoor sports facilities. The village can be reached within 10 cycling minutes. Golf course De Koepel is one and a half kilometres away and a mountain bike route is close by. Secondary schools are in nearby Almelo (10km.) and Rijssen (8km.). A wide choice of specialty shops can be found in Delden, Borne, Hengelo and Enschede (towards the east) and Deventer (towards the west). These places with their rich culinary and cultural offerings can be reached within half an hour.
