Description

Estate allure between Enschede and Hengelo

Architecturally built thatched English country house with energy label A+++ on 2.4 hectares of private land in leafy Twekkelo.

Stylish living in greenery
In the heart of Twekkelo, between extensive farmland and characteristic wooded banks, lies this architecturally built thatched country house on an exceptional plot of 23,955 m2. Through the private driveway, you arrive in a world of peace, privacy and nature.
This country house combines English allure with the character of the Twente countryside.

Country estate-level outdoor living
The plot is carefully laid out and consists of lawns, terraces, meadows, woods and a natural pond. To the rear, the Wilgenkampbeek forms an idyllic, meandering boundary to the property and enhances the feeling of a private domain. Scattered around the plot are several outbuildings and a sheepfold near the individual meadows. Together, they give the whole the feel of a private estate.
The current owners have maintained the property with great respect for nature. In the forest area, pheasants and roe deer regularly show themselves - sometimes a mother with her young. It is an environment where living and landscape come together naturally.

Ground floor - comfort and quality of life
The generous entrance hall, rich in details, immediately sets the tone. The marble floor, the charming oak staircase and the french doors opening onto the terrace create a stylish reception with plenty of light. Underfloor heating over the entire ground floor guarantees pleasant living comfort.

Also on this floor is the master bedroom, a space that exudes tranquillity and comfort. The stained-glass windows in insulating double glazing, the bay window and the oak tapis herringbone floor give the room warmth and character. The adjoining 2025 luxury bathroom makes ground-floor living here a matter of course and also makes this suite ideally suited as a luxury guest house.

The intimate sitting room features a beautiful fireplace with open hearth, ideal for long, atmospheric evenings. The oak herringbone floor and direct connection to the terrace provide a natural transition between indoors and outdoors.
The living kitchen - the heart of the house - with its striking pentagonal bay window offers fine views over garden and countryside. It forms an impressive backdrop for long dinners and family gatherings in this country house. The luxury bespoke kitchen is fitted with oak fronts, a granite worktop and equipped with an English Falcon cooker with induction hob and double hot-air ovens. In addition, the kitchen has several Siemens built-in appliances, including a dishwasher, built-in espresso machine, steam oven, fridge and freezer. The marble floor flows harmoniously into the open-plan kitchen, creating a generous and cohesive living space.
One of the most atmospheric rooms is the library/sitting room. The pentagonal bay window frames the view of the surrounding countryside like a living painting. The marble floor, closed wood fireplace and custom-made cabinet walls add warmth, tranquillity and luxury. A space that invites to read, work or stillness.

In addition, the mansion has a generous utility room, a practical laundry room and a fully subterranean basement of approximately 130 m². Adjacent to the kitchen is a compact wellness area with a combined traditional/infrared sauna and separate shower. French doors lead to the relaxation room with jacuzzi and unobstructed views of the fountain and private forest.

Upper floor - space and flexibility
The first floor, also fully fitted with underfloor heating, offers a generous and bright landing fitted with an oak herringbone parquet floor and five bedrooms. One of the bedrooms has sliding doors to the balcony overlooking the private grounds.

The master bedroom features a walk-in wardrobe and separate storage space. The modern bathroom on this floor features a bathtub, separate shower room, toilet and is modern and timeless.
A multipurpose intermediate room with dormer window and oak herringbone parquet flooring gives access to a spacious attic of about 80 m² and additional storage rooms.

Guest house
The stylishly attached guest house was completely renovated in 2018 and furnished as comfortable, self-contained living space with approximately 60 m² of living space on the ground floor.

The kitchen is equipped with an induction hob, extractor hood and sink, and offers space for a built-in fridge. The living room has a separate sitting and dining area, making for a pleasant and full-fledged living space.

On the first floor is a generous open-plan bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. There is also the possibility of creating a second bedroom. The bathroom is equipped with a shower, toilet and washbasin.
This guest house is ideally suited for a live-in situation, home care, home office or practice, or a Bed & Breakfast - while maintaining privacy for both main and secondary residence.

Outbuildings
The grounds include a generous barn (10 x 14 metres), a wooden outbuilding with shed and additional wood storage and a sheepfold.

The manor house has a lockable private access road and groundwater irrigation at the pond - amenities that contribute to comfort, independence and ease of maintenance.

Location & Amenities
Together with Driene, the Twekkelo hamlet forms the ecological connecting zone between Enschede and Hengelo and is known for its centuries-old ash trees, characteristic wooded banks and country estates.
The University of Twente and the centres of Enschede and Hengelo, with a wide range of shops, restaurants, cultural facilities and medical facilities, can be reached within ten minutes.

Several shopping centres, primary and secondary schools are located in the immediate vicinity. Sports clubs, golf opportunities and extensive recreational facilities are also a short distance away.
Via the A35 and A1 motorways, cities such as Deventer, Arnhem and Zwolle are easily accessible, while the German border is also a short distance away.

Building quality & sustainability

The country house was traditionally built in 1992, with high-quality materials and finishes and a solid construction of cavity brickwork. The thatched roof is professionally maintained periodically, most recently in May 2026, and underlines the timeless character of the house. The exterior façade is finished in nuanced hand-formed bricks of exceptional quality - the well-known Osse bricks, baked in the traditional way with wood firing. These artisanal materials give the mansion a

warm and durable appearance.
Behind the classic architecture is modern living comfort. In 2018, the house was completely modernised and preserved. The house boasts energy label A+++ and is fully insulated. Hardwood window frames with insulating glazing contribute to energy efficiency. Almost the entire house is fitted with underfloor heating. Heating is provided by a heat pump system from Stiebel Eltron, in cascade arrangement, combined with 48 solar panels set up in the meadow. This results in an efficient and pleasant indoor climate all year round. The house is connected to the municipal sewage network and equipped with a Verisure alarm system with monitoring station connection.

A country house like this is rarely offered. The combination of sustainability, high-quality finishes and a central location in the middle of greenery makes this generous family home an exceptional property, in which space, comfort and luxury come together as a matter of course.
