Description

Monumental Amsterdam School villa with studio/office/apartment living unit

This Amsterdam School villa (1926), designed by architect Klaas van den Berg, has significant art-historical significance. Located on Willem Bilderdijkplantsoen in Bussum Noord-Oost, against the border of Naarden, this exemplary villa district exudes art, culture and prestige. A prominent neighbourhood, designed at the time by the well-known architect De Bazel (a.o. Amsterdam city archive), with the park, with ditch and pond, as its focal point. An area where celebrated artists, among others, had their dream houses built. This included sculptor N.A. van der Kreek, who embellished his Amsterdam School home with his own sculptures and ornaments. These stylistic features, as well as many others added by the architect, have been beautifully preserved. This makes this detached house feel like it is at the beginning of the 20th century. The house is therefore a municipal monument and a protected village sight. A special property that you will certainly appreciate!

Although it is a great example of its time, with distinctive chimneys outside, turret, two gabled roofs, round gable sections and a rim of ornamental tiles on top of the straight walls and inside, for example, stained glass, period fittings and designer banisters, it is above all a delightful family home with a large studio/office/apartment living unit at the back, for extremely pleasant living and working. With large rooms, getting plenty of light from the tall windows and a blissful back garden (very private). The large, bright living room adjoins both the kitchen with pantry and the studio/office/living unit. Upstairs you will find three bedrooms, bathroom with shower and steam bath, a walk-in closet and a passage to the study. There is plenty of closet space and many special style features that will please your eye. Upstairs is also the roof terrace. You can overlook the parkland.

And don't forget the beautifully landscaped garden. Privacy was the thought when planting the vegetation and it worked out perfectly. It is a cosy, green garden with several terraces and a Van den Berg design bench and statues At the front of the house is a spacious driveway for several cars.

The location, you understand, is already as optimal as the house itself. Brediuskwartier is characterised by lots of greenery and shops, schools and sports facilities. The NS-station Naarden-Bussum and the A1 motorway are nearby. Here your family can reside in peace and quiet, and you are also never far away from hustle and bustle.
And no matter how beautifully we can describe this property, how many photos we can show, nothing compares to the impression you get when you experience the property and its surroundings. Make an appointment and dream your dream!

layout

Ground floor
The floor of the entire ground floor (except the hall) features solid oak planks. Primary colours like red, yellow and blue can be found throughout the house.

Entrance/hallway
Walking through the front garden towards the iconic chimney, you will find the front door. That leads you inside where in the entrance and hall, the hand of the Amsterdam School architect becomes immediately apparent. There are beige mosaic stones on the floor, the staircase upstairs is particularly designed with wooden designer banisters and the cloakroom, in the turret, is large with three windows. There is also a toilet in the hall.

Kitchen/utility room
The kitchen is characterised by a row of panelled windows and the famous yellow bar.
One of the colours of the Amsterdam School. Piece de resistance is the large AGA cooker. Otherwise, the kitchen is minimalist in design, including a modern low kitchen unit with metal-look drawers and wooden countertop and niches in the wall. From the kitchen you can access the side garden, and the pantry (where the fridge is hidden) and utility room with plenty of cupboard space and sink. Just in front of the garden door is a small breakfast table. From that door, you access the side terrace, which still has the authentic designer outdoor bench. From the scullery, you access the terrace and walk straight into the garden.

Living room
The living room, which you can enter from the scullery with a few steps, is of course special. A large room with tall windows. You have a view of the back garden and the barn in style of this monument. Special features are the low fireplace, the columns with an alcove space with bookcases and stairs down to the studio.

Atelier / multi-purpose room / separate living unit
You can furnish this space entirely as you wish. At the time, it was the ideal studio with high ceiling, large windows, beautiful light from the south-west, where the artist could indulge. Even now, even if you don't have any artist genes, this is a fantastic space, which you can use completely as you wish. A residence for an aupair, a large office (2 floors), a ward for a teenager, or a live-in parent. (The space can be closed off from the rest of the house). Note the window sills with black, Belgian bluestone tiles on them.

Plus points are the ground-floor bathroom with shower, toilet and washbasin and the upstairs (bedroom) room, which is accessible by stairs. Large French doors open onto the terrace in the back garden. There is also a technical room.

Garage/storage room
The garage/storage room is part of the house. You can enter it through the French doors from the driveway and from the workshop. The garage is spacious with a sink and plenty of cupboard space. Ideal storage space and for storing some bikes or a motorbike.

1st floor

Through the special staircase with typical yellow rod with red cap, you will arrive upstairs. On this floor, you will find some ornaments by the hand of Van de Kreek.

Landing with walk-in closet
The large landing upstairs is, of course, all in style. A striking feature is the large round bulge, behind which there is a large walk-in closet. A wide door leads to the roof terrace, which is also all in style with some ornaments.

Roof terrace
From the landing and the rear bedroom you enter the fine roof terrace. Here you can look over the beautifully landscaped park with pond. A great place to unwind.

3 x bedrooms
There are three bedrooms in total, all differing in size and appearance. The most striking room, though, is space at the front. From the row of windows (four of them), you overlook your front garden. The large space consists of a room with lots of fixed cupboards and a washroom. Particularly designed with a round shower wall, steam room, a lighting ceiling and further down the alcove two cupboards and a washbasin (in the round tower area). Too charming! The master bedroom is at the rear.

Work room/ attached unit
Through the hall at the back near the studio or through the back bedroom, you enter the upper floor of the studio. This is another large room with a wall full of windows and a large window at the end. Here you overlook the park's pond.
Here you can let your imagination run wild. What will it be? An office, a large bedroom, a playroom or a separate (sleeping) room for a teenager, parent, nanny? This part (with the studio underneath) can in principle be completely closed off from the main house.

Basement
Through the hall, the standing-height basement can be accessed.

GARDEN
The front garden is laid out in the same style as the back garden. Lots of trees, shrubs, hydrangeas and paths. In the back garden, there are two terraces. It is a green, friendly garden that is basically low-maintenance. The back garden is closed off from the front garden via gate. A safe place for small children to play.

Shed
In the garden is, all in style with tiled roof, a small shed. For garden furniture and tools.
