Everything revolves around enjoyment on the estate De Essenhof

Winssen in Gelderland is located south of the river Waal. Winssen is the smallest village of the green and wetland, yet also very accessible, municipality of Beuningen - 15 minutes from Nijmegen and in the vicinity of arterial roads A50 and A15. From the vantage point of the public road, De Essenhof remains a well-kept secret. A beautiful driveway, flanked by stately chestnut trees, provides access to the estate of approx. 2.5 acres. A pleasant surprise awaits because, on De Essenhof, everything inside and outside revolves around enjoyment.

De Essenhof was constructed by the famous artist duo Adelheid and Huub Kortekaas. The current inhabitants have made the necessary changes throughout the course of time and added a part - to promote symmetry in the house, but especially to create more residential comfort. Some walls have been demolished and ceilings removed to create space and height and an extra wing was built onto the house. In the special hall of the house, there is a floor of classic stones originating from near the Waal, which follow the same pattern from outside to inside, resulting in a pleasant harmony. In the left wing there is a convivial living room with large windows looking out on the sunny courtyard. In the adjacent kitchen diner, designed by Piet Boon, there is a beautiful, weathered floor of black slabs, sourced from French churches and castles. This is a dream domain for the exuberant cooking enthusiast, including an amazing La Cornue stove with two ovens and various gas burners. Connoisseurs know: once you have cooked on a stove like that, you don’t want anything else anymore. A little further, in the newly constructed part, there is a spacious dining room for formal dinners and receptions. The beautiful dining table, which has been custom made for this space, provides room for at least eight people.
The two wings on the ground floor have been arranged into multiple quarters. There is a lovely spacious and quiet office, another separate dining room and an atrium with a table around a barbecue built-in in the middle - connected to the natural gas, which is an idea the current owners have got from an Italian restaurant. The special part of this house is that all the living quarters exude a similar harmonious atmosphere, creating a pleasant peace, but still retain a personal appeal. Warm and cosy, with fireplaces of Boley, finished everywhere to the highest quality level and extraordinarily well-maintained. An enormous master bedroom has been created in what was the original studio, along with a library and again that delightful view of the garden. The curtains are never closed here! The bedroom has a large dressing room and adjacent a bathroom including a steam cabin. You reach the upper floor with four spacious bedrooms via the oak stairs; two of the bedrooms have a bedstead, two bathrooms and a pool room with billiards and bar.

And we haven’t even discussed the garden yet. And when it comes to De Essenhof it is better to speak of various gardens. The beautiful boxwood garden, the ponds where the black necked swan guards his wife and young, the large lawn and the 99 trees, like chestnut trees, birch trees, linden trees and yes, fortunately also a few ash trees. Plus the pride of De Essenhof: the five gardens of the five world religions, designed by the artist duo Kortekaas. De Essenhof also features a fully furnished garden house and a spacious garage. You reach the outside world again via a separate driveway. But once you have been to De Essenhof, you really never want to leave again.
