SPECTACULAR LOFT HOUSE IN FORMER SINT GREGORY CHAPEL
Living in an old, monumental chapel? Only rarely does such a special house become available with such a high content of character, historical elements and entourage as in the Gregory Chapel, part of the Gregory House in Utrecht. This old monastery building is located in a truly unique location in the middle of the old historic centre of Utrecht in the shadow of the cathedral. Directly located on the most chic canal with its unique cellars and close to the cozy city parks, but in the immediate vicinity and the hustle and bustle of the shopping and entertainment center of Utrecht.
In this completely architecturally transformed house, everything has been aimed at using a minimalist design and finish to the authentic details and the interplay of forms of the chapel fully come into its own. The sleek white finish gives the stained glass windows on a sunny day a fantastic colorful backdrop in which the historical bible stories come to life. With a gigantic living room of no less than 125 m², there is no shortage of space here. The chapel is peacefully and quietly located in the former monastery garden and is therefore beautifully hidden in the middle of the bustling city of Utrecht.
This chapel was built on the remains of an old chapel in 1922 and thus became part of the monastery building Sint Gregoriushuis. This was where the community of the Brothers of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, also known as the Brothers of Utrecht, was housed. These formed a congregation within the Catholic Church.
At the time there was a great need for good education for underprivileged children in our society. It was here that Catholic education was created in Utrecht, among other things, and it experienced a great deal of growth. At the time, the Brothers of Utrecht were in charge of a number of schools in Utrecht. In its heyday, the Gregorius school had more than 750 pupils. In the years that followed there was a contraction and there was an aging of the monastic community.
When the last Brothers of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart left the Gregory House in Utrecht in 2005 and left for De Bilt, the Gregory Chapel also became vacant. With the departure of the last residents, the opportunity arose to transform this fantastic place into homes at an unprecedented level.
The two entrances to the Gregorius Chapel on the Herenstraat and the Nieuwegracht are located in the very popular Museum Quarter with many historical sights within walking distance. The world-famous canals with their unique yards and cellars are just tens of metres from your front door. The numerous cozy restaurants, cafes and cafes are just around the corner.
The chapel is about 10 minutes walk from Central Station, several bus stops and has a good connection by car to the various highways A2, A12, A27 and A28 in the middle of the country. Parking the car on the street is possible. A covered parking space is optional subject to availability.
Living at the Herenstraat 4K gives you the opportunity to become owner of a historic piece of Utrecht city centre with all amenities around the corner.
