In the rolling landscape by the lake Ijsselmeer – formed by the driving movements of continental ice – there are forests, meadows, fields and the medieval village of Oudemirdum. Here, you will experience nature like nowhere else. And, fortunately, it is not located at the end of the world: Spitsbergen is only nine kilometres away from the cosy Balk, a half-hour drive away from Sneek and close to Lemmer and Stavoren, where you can go on the Ijsselmeer with your own boat. And it is worth noting that there is a nice nature golf court not even two kilometres away. If you do want to pay a visit to ‘the big city’ – after a relaxed drive of an hour and a half you will arrive in Amsterdam.
