In the rolling landscape by the lake Ijsselmeer – formed by the driving movements of continental ice – there are forests, meadows, fields and the medieval village of Oudemirdum. Close to this village, on the Huningspaed, you will find this farm, which is unique in every way. Not only unique because of the beautiful location next to the nature reserve Oudemirdumer Klif, but also because of the major restoration that has been executed by the current owners in 2004. Spitsbergen is a wonderful experience, inside and out. Two excellent homes have been realised on the farm, connected via a corridor. Both autonomous units are spacious and perfectly maintained. The view of the surroundings is simply magnificent.
The first unit has, among other things, a living room with an open kitchen, a bedroom with bathroom and a second bedroom with its own bathroom. This home also has its own scullery. In the other apartment, the original kitchen has been transformed into a modern kitchen, with the old floor of oxblood red floorboards still in its original state. In this home there is also a living room with an adjoining office, a bedroom with its own bathroom, a scullery and a hall with a guest bathroom. This room also offers a breathtaking view of the meadows, the Rijsterbos, the Jolderenbos and the Ijsselmeer. Apart from these two homes, the farm has a lot more to offer. The old part of the farm has been kept intact. This enormous and high space is perfect for all kinds of purposes, for example as a workshop annex exhibition space. This also applies to the first floor, where the wooden floor has been fashioned in a staggered pattern and all the trusses are visible. On this floor, there are possibilities for extra rooms: the pipes are ready. There are stairs leading to the attic, where a tower room has been created - a kind of ‘lookout’. Here, you can admire the sunset, but also the starry night sky, in peace and quiet. A little kitchen and toilet have also been thought of, so you can enjoy the very special moments to your heart’s content. During clear nights you can see the lights of the lighthouses of Texel and Vlieland flashing over the dark sea. On the yard of the Spitsbergen farm there are also some side-buildings. The spacious office with floor heating can be connected to the main building with ease. There is also a guesthouse with a kitchen and a bathroom as well as a garage for three cars. If all this space is not quite enough for you, there is the possibility to expand the existing plot from about one hectare to 3.75 hectares. Spitsbergen has a lot to offer, such as a very dry cellar, the use of geothermal energy, a water softening installation and floor heating, but above all it is the location which makes it unique. Here, you will experience nature like nowhere else. And, fortunately, it is not located at the end of the world: Spitsbergen is only nine kilometres away from the cosy Balk, a half-hour drive away from Sneek and close to Lemmer and Stavoren, where you can go on the Ijsselmeer with your own boat. And it is worth noting that there is a nice nature golf court not even two kilometres away. If you do want to pay a visit to ‘the big city’ – after a relaxed drive of an hour and a half you will arrive in Amsterdam.
