Description

On Amsterdam's most prestigious canal, between the Brouwersgracht and the Leliegracht, stands this magnificent double-wide monumental building from 1760, "Residence Lebrun." Behind the sandstone facade is the unique four-story rear house with a detached guest house and a garden house in the spacious west-facing garden.

The property is situated on private land and occupies a total of 422m2 including garden house with a garden of no less than 590m2. The house features an original period room with library en suite, a kitchen, a bedroom floor with bedroom, bathroom en suite and walk-in closet.

The upper floor is now arranged as one large bedroom floor with mezzanine. The possibility exists to make 2 good sized bedrooms here and a lazy staircase from the lower floor.

The guest house has on the first floor a living room with open kitchen and independent workspace/atelier and on the mezzanine floor currently a gym and bedroom with bathroom en suite.

Layout
The wide entrance door gives you access to the common hall with marble floor, attractively lit niches and beautiful murals by Amsterdam artist Peter Korver. At the beginning of the vestibule there is access to the spacious bicycle storage in the basement and at the end of this vestibule is the access to the back house and also a separate access to the guest house located in the garden.

Upon entering the back house you will find a spacious entrance, brightly lit during the day by the skylight in the ceiling. The floor, as in all other rooms on this level, is tiled with beautiful Portuguese tiles. Also from this hall you reach the spacious, no less than 8 meters wide, kitchen. The French doors give access to a large terrace and the spacious garden. The large kitchen is equipped with various appliances, a Belgian bluestone top and a cozy kitchen island. In this spacious living kitchen is enough space for a large dining table.

From the hall is also a separate storage / laundry room and a separate wine storage with constant temperature accessible.

The monumental staircase with wood paneling leads to the second floor. There is the Style Room (Louis XVI style), with high ceiling (over 4.5 meters), marble fireplace and several high mirrors . Three French high double doors with French balcony offer a beautiful view of the garden. The original, full height wooden sliding panels are still in effect here. En suite a library with library stairs, where light pours in from the tall windows. Throughout the floor is a beautiful herringbone parquet floor with piping.

On the second floor, from the spacious and bright landing you reach the toilet and the hallway to the master bedroom. The large bedroom with high windows, marble fireplace, mirror and wooden paneling, features a walk-in closet with natural light and bathroom en suite. The modern bathroom has two freestanding sinks, a walk-in shower and a freestanding bathtub from which there is a beautiful view of the garden.

A slender steel staircase provides an entrance from the second floor to the attic floor where the wooden construction immediately catches the eye. This floor is currently arranged as one bedroom floor. The possibility exists to create two good-sized bedrooms here with a lazy staircase from the bedroom floor below. Alternate floor plans and mood images can be viewed in photos!

Guest house / studio
The guest house has its own entrance from the common vestibule and back house and is detached in the garden. It is constructed of white masonry in a blue wood frame with four double-hung window frames, two of which have double French doors. The studio was remodeled in 1997 using modern materials such as glass, steel and wood. An all-glass (partly sandblasted, partly clear) hallway has two lockable pivot doors that provide access to the living room with kitchen on one side and the office space/atelier on the other. The wooden structure of the roof is visible throughout, making the entire guesthouse seem like one room. This is partly achieved by the open mezzanine floor, which can be accessed from both the living room and the office space via two staircases. The fact that all floors, as well as the stairs, are covered with wide American pine floorboards and the walls both downstairs and on the mezzanine floor are painted in the same recurring color, which contributes ?to the sense of unity. The living room features a built-in kitchen with cabinetry and a toilet with vestibule and access to the storage/utility room. The room on the first floor, currently used as office space, has its own toilet with vestibule and access to the garden, so it could function as an independent workspace. On the mezzanine floor are two rooms with built-in closets, one of which is currently used as a bedroom. These rooms are separated by a bathroom with sink and walk-in shower The guest house has a fitted kitchen with closet space and a toilet with vestibule and access to the storage/utility room.

Garden
Where most canal-side gardens are narrow, this canal garden is unique because of its width and enormous size. Upon entering the spacious garden, all senses are immediately stimulated by the wonderful smells and beautiful colors of the plants and the sound of the fountain, the many birds and buzzing bees. There are several seating areas allowing you to enjoy the sun or the view of the stately back facade at different times. There are many mature trees in the garden including a golden rain, prunus, Japanese maple, willow and holly and in the beautifully landscaped borders are various flowering plants and shrubs, such as a Rhododendron, rose, hydrangea, laurel and broom. The classic white wooden garden house in the back of the garden has water and electricity. In front of the gazebo is a covered terrace slightly elevated from the garden level. A gravel path with a hedge of conifers on either side, leads to the detached guest house. In the garden, privacy is ensured by the high, mainly overgrown fence.

Surroundings
The canal house is located on the western side of the ring of canals and within walking distance are numerous nice terraces, eateries and special stores. There are nice markets nearby on several days, including an organic market, a fabric market and a vintage market, in short, a perfect location for the lover of the Amsterdam city center. By car, the location is easily accessible via the Prins Hendrikkade and the IJtunnel. Central Station is within walking distance.
