On a prime location, directly on the river Linge, is this modern, extremely high quality finished and playfully furnished villa from 2005 located. Extra advantages of this villa? What about the double garage, wine cellar, 2 jetties, swimming pool, outdoor shower and jacuzzi.
Few people know that the idyllic river Linge is the longest river in the Netherlands. No less than 108 kilometers the Linge travels, from Doornenburg to Gorinchem. And along the way also the historic town of Leerdam, whose history dates back to the year 1130. The most beautiful house in Leerdam is located directly on the Linge, hidden behind a thick oak gate. Welcome to paradise.
The Linge meanders through an interesting part of the Netherlands. But in spring, when the fruit trees in the basin bloom, the landscape is truly enchanting.
Experience the Betuwe, sailing with a boat over the Linge, is an intoxicating experience. An experience that is only matched by living by the river, a privilege that only a few have been granted. At the Balkengat near Leerdam, a shallow inner harbour that was dug out in the second half of the eighteenth century for the tree trunks of the now disappeared sawmill, is a special country house in a unique location. Perhaps the most beautiful house on this beautiful river.
We leave the built-up area of Leerdam along the Horndijk and shortly afterwards follow the exit that bends down from the dike. Where we stop for a heavy, oak gate. Not much later it turns out that there is a real paradise hidden behind it. The manor house shows itself to be modest on the entrance side of the Horndijk, but unfolds itself in its full glory at the back, where people live and enjoy themselves. From the sun and the south, the Linge rippling peacefully past and the surrounding natural beauty.
From infinity and peace. At one of the two hardwood jetties, ten and twenty-four metres long, lies a classic sloop, ready to sail out.
The thatched gazebo on the riverbank beckons invitingly: a light lunch or high tea with a magnificent view over the Linge and the passing boats? Or rather settle down in a place that offers even more seclusion, from where you can see the pleasure sailors, but they won't see you. The park-like garden of 2,770 m² that surrounds this country house offers plenty of privacy. The heated, covered terrace and even the swimming pool and jacuzzi can be enjoyed undisturbed, free from prying eyes. You can settle on the terrace next to the pool, under the plane trees, or a little higher on the covered 'winter terrace', complete with floor and bench heating and heaters.
The country house has a warm, intimate atmosphere, so everyone feels right at home. In the design, the current owners have had a decisive role. The lady of the house is a well-known interior designer and knew exactly what she wanted. A tough, comfortable house, spacious enough for a family with children, but still clear and comfortable. Although the house arose here in 2005, it seems as if it was always there.
In the construction are therefore robust, authentic materials used - old ceiling beams, oak doors, hand shape stones, stained glass windows and in the living room everyone gathers around the crackling fireplace in the antique sandstone chimney. Or in the adjoining, cosy country-style kitchen at the large wooden table by the gas-fired fireplace. Burgundian floorboards, a red AGA stove and a vaulted wine cellar complete the picture.
Again, as in the living room, patio doors with skirting windows provide access to the covered terrace and garden. The beautiful staircase in the royal hall connects the three floors in this split level villa. The layout is dictated by the fact that the villa is built against the dike. On the ground floor, actually a middle floor, are the entrance, three bedrooms with private bathrooms, the spacious utility room and a double indoor garage.
Living room and kitchen are one floor down on the river side, while from the hall you go up a few steps for the master bedroom with adjoining luxurious bathroom, cloakroom and separate study with fireplace.
The construction has uncompromisingly used the very best materials, both in terms of quality and appearance. There is also an economical geothermal heat system and the whole house has underfloor heating, which in summer functions as air conditioning. This is a well thought-out, very tastefully designed house.
An earthly paradise for people who want to enjoy a rich and comfortable outdoor life, living on the water in all its shades.
