An exceptionally designed villa with glass in the leading role
Impressive and utterly unique, those are the characteristic indications of this villa built in 2014 at Molendijk 9 in Laren, Gelderland. Designed by Maas Architecten, who, with their expertise and vision, develop more of these prestigious objects. Through a distinctive design and the application of natural base materials, a home that architecturally forms an integral part of the rural environment has been realised. On the outside, the large amount of glass reflects the beautiful natural landscape, and on the inside, there is no more optical limit to the pleasant feeling of optimal outdoor living. Furthermore, the anthracite-coloured zinc finish on the sides and roof not only creates a minimalist design appearance, but is also a perfect solution for the high-quality insulation applied underneath.
The entire house is geared towards the future. For instance, there are solar panels and solar collectors on the roof, and the floor heating/cooling is mainly supported by a heat pump. These technically high-quality facilities are also recognisable in the state-of-the-art home automation system with, among other things, controls for the lighting, sun shades and the home audio and alarm systems.
When driving onto the private access road to the design villa, centrally located higher up on the 2 hectares of land, it becomes very tangible that this place offers a very special combination of home and living. The road runs up to the main entrance and to the spacious (multi-car) garage located at the rear of the house and the adjacent large office and hobby space. More cars can also be parked in the space under the roof cowl next to and in front of the entrance.
Upon entering the home, the high hall and the view to various parts of the house, as well as the applied (acoustic) ceilings and level differences, create an experience that reinforces the pleasant interaction between the inside and outside. Glass plays an important part everywhere. From both the cooking island and the spacious seating area (with gas fireplace), the modern living kitchen provides a pleasant view of the green lawn and the meadows of the rustic ‘Oost Gelders’ landscape. There are terraces on both sides of the kitchen, which offer optimal comfort depending on the weather and wind conditions. From the open hall, a staircase leads to the first floor, where there is a spacious mezzanine, a large storage room and an office and hobby room. Downstairs, the hall connects to an extra wide and tall passage with lots of glass on both sides again. To the south, there is a sliding door that leads to the spacious veranda with an open wood-burning fireplace and impressive view of an open terrace, beautiful grass and woodland and a large body of water that partially consists of a biotop natural swimming pool. Next to that is a gazebo with a partly covered terrace and, in front of it, a modern fire bowl that is centrally placed in a white sand area. The aforementioned passage transitions into the slightly more elevated, stylish sitting room with the private office next to it, followed by the master bedroom with a walk-in wardrobe and luxurious bathroom. Thanks to the large amount of glass, the sitting room offers a fantastic view of both the south and west sides of the land, and the broad wooden floorboards and gas fireplace only add to the atmosphere. From the passage, there is also a staircase down to the special basement with a direct view and access to a west-facing terrace. Across the entire width of the glass-finished exterior are three luxurious bedrooms with French doors. Also found inside are a laundry room, luxurious bathroom, toilet, walk-in closet and a technical room.
