Peace and tranquillity reign at country estate ‘t Brummel, where the contemporary, thatched house offers amazing views of the private plot of approx. 9.5 hectares in all directions. The estate is certainly extensive enough to experience ultimate freedom and privacy.
The extensive landscaped garden was created in a minimalistic style and is hidden from sight from the Lage Lochemseweg by a private plot of ancient woodlands of over four hectares, with mighty beeches and pine trees. The manicured lawns surrounding the house naturally blend in with the more distant golden grass that dances in the wind. Old, gnarled fruit trees and walnuts tell the story of their history going back two hundred years. At the pond, a family of roe deer regularly comes together to drink from the cooling water. The splendid and undulating bocage landscape with 325 hectares of forests and the river Berkel surround ‘t Brummel like a painting. If we had to describe it all in one word, it would be ‘paradise’.
The estate was realised in 2003 at the spot that once held a large agricultural business. As said, the plot has been totally transformed over the years and now not only naturally blends in with the breathtaking landscape but also includes walking trails. The stunning house with its unique character nowhere resembles the old farmhouses that are typical for the area. Architect Diederik Fokkema created an exciting design in harmony with the landscape. While the entrance offers a rather introverted view with its long sloping roofline, the other side of the house opens up magnificently to the surrounding nature. Rural yet with a modern allure. The residence offers loads of space (approx. 442 m2) without any concession to a great feeling of intimacy. The transparent layout – showing in the nine-metre-high central hall from where nearly all other rooms can be seen – ensures that the proximity of all family members is always felt without sacrificing on individual privacy. Such aspects make this a perfect and comfortable family home.
The current residents tastefully transformed the former double indoor garage into a wonderful conservatory with floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors across the width of the space. The panoramic views of the fields to the edge of the wood are fascinating in every season. The sunrises and sunsets, in particular, are a visual spectacle that exceeds any nature documentary. The automated awning prevents high indoor temperatures during the summer. In the adjacent southwest-oriented living room, the eyes are instantly drawn to the magnificent sand-lime mantelpiece. Here, again, the French doors to the surrounding terrace bring the outside inside. Sliding doors in the living room, incorporated into the walls, lead to a spacious study or TV room with a gorgeous wooden cabinet with an integrated open gas-fuelled fireplace. The elongated thatched roofline ensures a pleasantly cool indoor climate.
A broad and gradual staircase brings you from the hall to the first floor. Here, we find the impressive master suite and en-suite bathroom, a separate toilet and a shower room, plus a dressing room with bespoke wardrobes. Besides the master suite, this floor includes a family bathroom and three more wonderful bedrooms. One of these rooms, which also has a gas-fuelled fireplace, is currently used as a study and offers splendid views of the surrounding landscape.
Apart from this magnificent house, the plot includes a robust, wooden outbuilding with a double garage, a carport, and a large garden shed. The shed also includes the irrigation system and pump that pumps water to all corners of the garden. Besides the already described features, the house has air conditioning, underfloor heating, fibre-optic cabling, an automated access gate and garage doors, alarm and fire alarm systems, a central vacuum system, a water softening installation, exceptionally high doors and ceilings, and paved terraces surrounding the house. The exit to Deventer from the A1 motorway can be reached within twenty minutes and the Lochemse Golf & Country Club is just a nine-minute drive.
